On November 17th, Apple announced today that it will launch a self-repair program that will allow customers to obtain genuine Apple parts and tools to repair their devices themselves. The plan will first be applied to the iPhone 12 and iPhone 13 series, and Mac computers with M1 chips will also join soon.

The do-it-yourself repair program will start in the U.S. early next year and roll out to other countries in 2022 or later. Customers will have access to these parts, tools and manuals from the more than 5,000 Apple Authorized Service Providers (AASPs) and 2,800 Independent Repair Service Providers.

The initial phase of the program will focus on the parts that most frequently require repairs, such as the iPhone display, battery and camera. Self-service repairs for other components will open later next year.

"Further opening up access to genuine Apple parts will give our customers more options when they need to repair their devices," said Jeff Williams, Apple's chief operating officer. Having nearly doubled the number of service locations and training, we will now offer new options for those who wish to do their own repairs.”

Apple-made products are built to last and are designed to withstand the high-intensity of everyday use. When an Apple product needs repair, it can be repaired using genuine Apple parts by trained technicians at thousands of service locations, including Apple (in store or by mail), AASP, independent repair providers, and more. Now, product owners with repair skills can also do it themselves.
